WINGAS was founded in the 1990s by the BASF subsidiary Wintershall and Russia’s Gazprom.
With a market share of around 20%, WINGAS is one of the largest natural gas suppliers in Germany.
The group's markets extend beyond Germany to Belgium, Denmark, France, Austria, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic.
WINGAS supplies municipal utilities, regional gas suppliers, industrial companies and power stations.
WINGAS buys natural gas from producers in the North Sea and from Russia. Around 40% of this comes from Siberian gas fields.
The majority of the gas is delivered either via the Yamal-Europe pipeline through Belarus and Poland or directly to Western Europe via the Nord Stream pipeline through the Baltic Sea.
